The Odds Converter

There are plenty of ways to display the odds for a bet. While most people use (and understand) the decimal system, there are a lot of others that use any of the five other major formats that exist. Punters in the British Commonwealth for example are used to the fractional system which they understand better than the decimal. Each system denotes a different basis for the display. Others focus on the payout, others focus on the stake and others correlate between the stake and the profit. The Odds Converter is here to provide a solution to the issue of seeing a display that you are not used to.

How does the Odds Converter save the day?

The Hong Kong odds format displays in decimals the amount that represents the profit of a bet. The standard decimal system on the other hand, represents the total payout. The American system tells you how much money you need to stake in order to win 100$. It’s not just a different way to show the odds. Each system has a different meaning to the minds of the punters.
When a bettor that is used to the first format tries to place a bet in a bookmaker that uses a different display, there’s a great chance that they will get confused and place the wrong bet. And here is how the Odds Converter saves the day. The user converts the odds from the display of the bookmaker they want to use, to the system that makes more sense to them. This way they negate the possibility of the aforementioned error.

It’s not as simple as it looks

The mathematical formulas to convert from one system to another are actually quite complex. Let’s see it in an example. The American system depends heavily on whether the offer is positive or negative. Two formulas are used:
Negative odds = -100/the odds + 1 = decimal odds
Example: Odds = -200
Function: -100/-200 + 1 = 1.50
Positive odds = odds / 100 + 1 = decimal odds
Example: Odds = 300
Function: 300/100 + 1 = 4.00
As you can see it is quite a bit more complicated that you may have thought. A different, third, mathematical formula is used to convert between the fractional system and the decimal.

Not used to decimals? Use the Odds Converter

It may not be the number that you see in the odds that will confuse you. What will do that is what it represents. For example, in the Malaysian system, a negative display actually spells out a doubling of the stake it the bet is successful. If you are used to this system and you get a decimal price, then you definitely need to convert in order to understand what exactly it is that you see.
The Odds Converter is only a part of the full set of betting tools that is at your disposal. Their purpose is to help you make the most out of your activity in the gambling world. You can use them for more than just placing good wagers.
